As part of this year’s European Days of Jewish Culture, the City of Munich is hosting a reading and discussion centered on the book „Juden auf dem Platz, Juden auf den Rängen: Jüdische Lebenswirklichkeiten und Antisemitismus im Fußball heute“ (Jews on the Pitch, Jews in the Stands: Jewish Experiences and Antisemitism in Football Today) by Ruben Gerczikow and Monty Ott.
Jewish people are an active part of German society, including within the world of football – both in the stands and on the pitch. In the wake of the massacre on Israeli civilians by the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas on October 7, 2023, football revealed both its darkest aspects and its capacity for solidarity. Stories such as those of the murdered Israeli hostages Hersh Goldberg-Polin and Inbar "Pink" Heyman have deeply affected many fan communities across German football.
Jewish Culture Festival "European Days of Jewish Culture in Chernivtsi" with the participation of various amateur groups and individual performers in partnership with the Jewish Community of Chernivtsi, namely:
– choreographic group "Jewish Miniatures" (Lviv),
– Jewish song ensemble "Strudel Band" (Lviv),
– Jewish vocal ensemble "Simhe" (Vinnytsia),
– vocal ensemble "Aviv" (Sumy).
"Love That Takes Root"
The motto of the European Days of Jewish Culture 2026 – "Love" – inspires us to look at the history of the Częstochowa Jewish community from a different perspective: not through the lens of tragedy, but of life. We want to tell the story of people who loved their families, their city, their culture, and their traditions. People who, over generations, helped build Częstochowa, leaving behind a heritage that continues to enrich us today.
For centuries, Częstochowa was a meeting point for diverse cultures and religions. The Jewish community played a significant role in the city's development, contributing to its economic, social, and cultural life. Today, the memory of this heritage is preserved through the work of The World Society of Częstochowa Jews, which was led for many years by Zygmunt Rolat, an Honorary Citizen of Częstochowa.
We invite interested people to join us on a guided tour through one of the largest jewish cemeteries of Burgenland, Austria.
We start with a 30 minute recitation in the town hall.
Afterwards we go to the cemetery, where Mr. Mag. Johannes Reiss will hold a 90 minute presentation on several remarkable places of the cemetery.
