EDJC 2023 > Silver House of Love – A Digital Journey Through Jewish Wedding Traditions
Silver House of Love – A Digital Journey Through Jewish Wedding Traditions is an innovative educational and cultural project that combines Jewish heritage with contemporary digital technologies. The project explores the rich traditions, symbolism, and material culture associated with Jewish wedding ceremonies, making them accessible to diverse audiences through immersive and interactive digital experiences.
At the heart of the project is the digitization of a unique Jewish wedding ring from the collection of the Irena and Mieczysław Mazaraki Museum in Chrzanów. Due to its small size and intricate structure, the object has never before been digitally documented. Using advanced blue-light laser scanning technology, the project will create a highly detailed 3D model that preserves every aspect of the artifact and allows it to be explored online by visitors around the world.
The project will also develop a digital reconstruction of a traditional Jewish wedding canopy (chuppah), based on historical materials provided by Yad Vashem. Together with the digitized artifacts, the chuppah will be placed within a virtual wedding environment designed to present the historical, cultural, and symbolic context of Jewish marriage traditions.
A key outcome of the project will be an interactive online educational game that incorporates authentic 3D models of heritage objects. Through collaborative exploration and gameplay, participants will discover the meanings of wedding symbols, rituals, and objects while gaining a deeper understanding of Jewish history, culture, and community life. The project aims to engage young audiences in particular, demonstrating how innovative technologies can support heritage education and intercultural dialogue.
The public launch of the project will be accompanied by an open lecture delivered by a specialist in Jewish wedding traditions, providing historical and cultural insights into the customs and practices presented in the digital environment. By combining heritage preservation, digital innovation, and public education, Silver House of Love offers a contemporary and accessible way to experience an important aspect of Jewish cultural heritage.
