An exhibition about the Cairo Genizah, located within the storeroom of the Ben Ezra Synagogue in Old Cairo, represents an unparalleled repository of medieval documents that fundamentally reshaped historical research. This vast collection contains diverse materials, ranging from business records and liturgical texts to rare fragments of ancient literature, which provide critical insights into the life of Jesi community, and medieval Mediterranean society. The scholarly recovery of these manuscripts was significantly advanced by the work of Agnes Smith Lewis and Margaret Dunlop Gibson, who played a catalytic role in bringing the materials to the attention of Solomon Schechter. Schechter subsequently spearheaded the extraction and identification of these treasures, ensuring their preservation and establishing the Genizah as a cornerstone of historical study.
