Judaism and Christianity are sister religions with common origins, thus sharing deep historical, cultural, and spiritual roots. The Christian Holy Bible, which is based on the Jewish Tanakh, is like the later one of the most important sacred books. In 1967, Dr Jakob Aleksič prepared the first Slovenian edition of the “Malo Sveto pismo,” which was intended to encourage as many Slovenian Christians as possible to gain a better understanding of their faith. The primary purpose of this edition was to offer a selection of passages from the entire Holy Bible, accompanied by brief, clear, and understandable explanations. The book was extremely well received and achieved very high print runs; nearly sixty years later, the creators of a new edition of this book also drew on Aleksič’s work. However, the new edition now includes several significant updates: the biblical text has been replaced with the text of the new translation made for the Jerusalem Bible, while Aleksič’s commentaries have been completely revised and rewritten.
