The Lisboa City Council intends to participate in the celebration for the European Days of Jewish Culture 2026, promoting three guided visits of Lisboa's Jewish historical heritage in the historic center. It will be an interesting opportunity to discover tangible and intangible evidence of a Jewish presence in the Tagus city related to the medieval period.

This municipal initiative invites people to discover places, stories and memories that highlight the contribution of the medieval Jewish community to the development of Lisboa's historical, cultural, and social identity, valuing a heritage that integrates its diversity.

The visits aim to contribute to the participants' knowledge and appreciation of Lisboa's Jewish historical and cultural heritage, promoting the dissemination and the disclosure of an old legacy that constitutes an essential part of the city's history.

The initiative aims to promote and value the Jewish historical and cultural heritage of medieval Lisboa, raising public awareness of its relevance to the history of the city and of Europe. This initiative also aims to celebrate cultural diversity, promote intercultural dialogue and encourage meetings among different traditions.

According with the European theme for 2026 "LOVE”, these shorts guided visits aim to reinforce values such as empathy, mutual respect, inclusion and coexistence among people of different origins, contributing to a greater understanding of a shared heritage.

This municipal event includes three guided visits of Jewish Lisboa, in the historical center of the Portuguese capital. The visits, led by Manuel Fialho, researcher and PhD in Medieval History, will take place on October 26th, 28th and 30th, and last two hours.

This celebration of Jewish culture will be advertised in the "Agenda Lisboa Cultura" and other official communication channels of the Lisboa City Council namely through the publication and disclosure of an invitation poster designed by João Rodrigues.

Briefly, the itinerary for the guided visits is: 1. Road junction of Rua dos Fanqueiros and Rua de S. Nicolau. 2. Money Museum. 3. Praça do Comércio. 4. Casa dos Bicos. 5. Hotel Áurea Museum Lisboa. 6. Rua da Judiaria [Jewish Quarter].

At last, the Lisboa City Council intends, with this event, to reinforce public interest in cultural legacy, encouraging meetings among people of different backgrounds and to help combat stereotypes and intolerance.
